Minister of Antiquities, Mamdouh Al-Damati ordered the complete renovation of the mint (coin manufacturing) facilities in Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi Citadel, in addition to the installation of display cabinets to showcase ancient coin collections, from Roman to Islamic times.
The decision came during an unscheduled inspection tour of the Citadel, as part of a series of visits to several archaeological sites and tourist attractions, following Tuesday’s inspection of the religious complex in Old Cairo.
Al-Damati also inspected the area around Old Cairo Gates, called Bab Al-Silsilah (the Gate of the Chain), commonly known as Bab Al-Azab, and commissioned the restoration of the area that reflects the magnificence and beauty of Old Cairo.
