MCIT strategy to attract foreign investment – Al-Tahrir News Network

In his speech at the GSMA forum during the GITEX conference and exhibition held in Dubai, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology Atef Helmy said that the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) strategy has a priority of achieving digital socio-economic growth in Egypt and meeting people’s aspirations of prosperity, freedom and social justice.

The strategy aims at developing the sector and attracting more foreign investment, which would create new job opportunities, as Egypt is considered an attractive place for investment, support democratic transition and counter corruption, as well as extending ICT services in remote and marginalised areas.

This is in addition to improving government services and supporting those with special needs through utilising IT services to integrate them into society.

The country’s presence in GITEX Dubai is in line with promoting Egyptian participation in international forums for the exchange of expertise, opening new markets for local ICT companies and promoting investment opportunities in the sector.

Helmy met with his Lebanese counterpart Boutros Harb and discussed means of activating mutual cooperation between the two countries and ICT joint vision in the Arab world.

Moreover, the ICT minister met with UK Trade and Investment representatives where they considered means of promoting mutual cooperation and the latest developments in the ICT field.

Additionally, he discussed with them the ICT sector’s vision to improve the investment climate in Egypt for effective partnership in the private sector, with both the public sector and civil society within the proposed projects until 2020, most important of which are technology parks and broadband internet.

In the area of establishing and developing technology parks, Helmy viewed investment opportunities in Maadi Technology Park and technology parks to be established in the various governorates in the country, with both officials in Emaar Misr and Global Investment House. Both companies have expressed their interest in investing in the projects.

Egypt took part in GITEX Dubai with a high-level delegation representing the ICT sector and 35 Egyptian companies, which provide various technology solutions for their prospective clients.

The event is the largest in ICT field in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia.
