Security forces have killed 26 suspected terrorists in the governorates of North Sinai, Ismailia, Port Said and Daqahliyah the past week, Armed Forces spokesman Mohamed Samir announced on Sunday.

The security forces raided terrorist cells in the districts from 20-27 September. The terrorists were killed in a crossfire between the two parties, Samir added. An additional 84 terrorists and criminals were arrested.

Meanwhile, 148 people were arrested attempting to illegally cross into or outside of Egypt from the border governorates of Marsa Matrouh and North Sinai. Those arrested included 137 Egyptians, six Palestinians, four Sudanese and one Syrian national.
Police and army forces are continuing wide scale operations in Sinai and other governorates against radical militants who have escalated their attacks in the Sinai Peninsula since the ouster of Islamist president Morsi in July 2013.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the death toll from terrorism acts from January 2011 to April 2014 stands at 971, including 664 security personnel.
