Pharrell Williams started his 20-date tour performing at 4U Arena, in Manchester, on Tuesday night.
The pop superstar has wowed his fans with three of his biggest and best-selling singles: Happy, awarded the Best Male Video and Video of the Year at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards, Get Lucky and Blurred Lines.
The music producer and song writer has been named the “King of the Downloads” with three tracks in the top 10 most downloaded songs. All three have sold more than one million copies with Happy having been downloaded 1.62 million times.
The star said: “I would just like to say thank you, first and foremost, to the people, because the charts are determined by them. I have a lot to be thankful for because they’ve chosen these things and it’s resulted in Happy being what it’s become,” The Independent reports.
“The people of the UK have been so supportive of me over the years, allowing me to be an artist and allowing me to work with other people and supporting what it is that I do. That’s the lifeline, without them you’re just a musician with a couple of ideas but with them, that is the thing that changes everything when they get involved, your little idea can become something, so …thank you.”
Not only did Happy go triple platinum, but Williams’ singles with Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines) and Draft Punk (Get Lucky) took second and sixth place respectively, according to the Official Charts Company.
The Dear GIRL tour will not only bring the 41-year-old star to Manchester, but will also – many European cities before finishing in London on October 9th.
